1845 Brigade is a Texas-based nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community through recreation with a purpose. Inspired by the spirit of unity that brought Texas and the Union together in 1845, the 1845 Brigade brings people together through recreation, wellness and purposeful connection in the community.

My name is Susan Wilson, and I am a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) with over 25 years of professional experience. Throughout my career, I have worked across diverse settings including physical rehabilitation, mental health, substance recovery, homelessness services, and community recreation. Much of my work has focused on supporting active-duty military personnel and veterans, both in clinical environments -such as Laurel Ridge, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and at Fort Hood as part of the Adaptive Reconditioning Program within the Warrior Transition Unit (WTU). In addition to my professional background, I am the daughter, niece, and wife of veterans, which has deepened my personal commitment to those who have served. I am passionate about the continued care and support of service members, and through my experience, I have identified a strong need for inclusive community spaces where they can gather and engage in meaningful, purpose-driven programs.
